Great ways to start thinking about Reflexology

The answer could be at your feet!

Quite literally says the Reflexologist.   Having seen hundreds of feet over the last two decades and having experienced reflexology for myself regularly since the 1980’s. I know for sure your feet TALK …. a lot!

It starts with a greeting, a quick look then an embrace around each foot, a comforting hold that replies back.

Your feet often tell me

“I’m unsure” “I’m cold” “I’m hot” “I’m out of balance” “I look after myself” “I need much TLC” and that’s just for starters.

With a foot jiggle , wiggle and toe rotation your feet can start screaming volumes.

I’m tight” “I’m flexible” “I’m sore

and then the reflexologist’s thumb starts to do the caterpillar walk, around the big toe.

“oooh that’s tender” you cry

“Sore neck?” asks me, the Reflexologist

“How did you know “? you respond

As I wiggle my thumb down the side of the foot, I ask – “ooh are you tight in the lumbar region” ?

“You can tell that from the feet? Seriously ?” you reply and so our journey begins.

Reflexology works on the principle of every part of the foot relates to the body.  Yes, every part I tell the Year 13s in the Health Class. I love to tell them that I know when you smoke, if you have had a hard night out on the town or you are pregnant! That gets their attention.

Reflexology had been around for eons, an ancient therapy that has morphed into the westernised world. It is a non invasive therapy that predominantly works via the feet but is also effective on the hands, face and ears.

When you come for a treatment all you are asked to do is remove your socks and shoes, pop yourself in the comfy chair , or lie on the massage table , wrap in a comfy blanket if its cold (though snuggling in any weather is good) and let the reflexologist do the rest.

All systems within the body are related to reflex zones within the feet, hands and ears and can help your body to balance itself to give better energy levels as well as relaxation.

Reflexology can help to :-

  • Enhance general well being

  • Reduce Stress

  • Encourage Relaxation

  • Improve Circulation

  • Clear the Body of Impurities

  • Assist the digestive system

  • Increase energy

  • Nurture emotional wellbeing

  • Reduce some pain

  • Help with pregnancy

Please note, reflexologists cannot and will not diagnose – with professional training they can identify areas that could possibly be out of balance, and then it involves a bit of mutual detective work.

Often I say “Do you have an issue with …..” and the process dives deeper.

A session tends to last for an hour depending on the state of health or age of the client attending. Various techniques may be used within one session to tailor to your own needs. I have been studying a long time so there is much to choose from.

Most client depart in a more relaxed state, feet feel lighter and their body a little more alive and balanced. Regular sessions be it weekly, fortnightly monthly or even quarterly are recommended to feel long term effects.

I look forward to seeing you at Healing Ways soon.
