Come away with Common Sense Prescriptions

I am no doctor or part of the medical fraternity but I do love to give out down to earth prescriptions.

NOW I very quickly hasten to add my advice when coming to see me at the Healing Ways clinic, classed as Complementary Therapies, should NOT be viewed as a replacement for medical care. If you have any concerns about your health then you should always seek advice from your doctor or health care practitioner.

So here are HEALING WAYS most common prescriptions:-

  • Drink Water

  • Breathe

  • Exercise

It is that SIMPLE.

WATER

Your body is composed of about 70% water.

There are many bodily fluids that help the functioning of your incredible body including digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and even maintenance of body temperature. You need to keep this all moving hence like any machine it requires lubrication. WATER is the key one.

Often the first questions I ask

How much water do you drink daily?

and often I get sheepish replies of

“not much”

“Does coffee count?”

“I drink tea!”

“I had a glass yesterday”

So I become the loveable nag! Water is medicine! It cleans your insides , keeps you flowing, keeps your functions moving and is way better for you than fizzy juice.

I could link you to loads of sites advising the benefits of water sites but YOU KNOW yourself how much better you feel.

Just drink it!

No absolute amount just aim for about 2 litres, more if you exercise hard.

Create check charts , engage your family, drink a glass by the hour.

BREATHE

So simply we forget. How often do you hold your breath or shallow breathe?

Oh there are the comments again

“I know - I just breathe in the chest”

“I never thought about it”

“I hold my breath”

So occasionally please, think about your breathing.

Did you know there was a correct way of breathing?

Often in talks I ask and its about 50/50 of who gets it right.

Hands on your abdomen and feel the breath.

As you breath in your abdomen should go out ( none of this sucking in to lose a couple of inches!!!)

As you breath out your abdomen should move in.

Go on try it!

Really Focus on your Breath and only your Breath

  • Breathe in

  • Breathe Out

  • Breathe In

  • Breathe Out

Last Exercise in this article

(If you feel any dizziness or shortness of breath please stop)

  • Breathe in for 4

  • Hold for 4

  • Breathe out for 4

  • Hold for 4

Repeat this 4 times. This can be increased to patterns of 4,6,4,4 and then 6,6,6,6, and then 6,8,6,6 etc Holding the breath whilst you have air in your lungs but please take it easy as you progress.

We come into this world with our first breath and go out on our last! Make the ones in-between count!

and EXERCISE

It doesn’t have to be flash , hard or extreme though it can be!

Just move your body, “the use it or lose it mentality”

  • a simple walk

  • a little dancing

  • a swim to going to exercises classes

  • playing outdoors games

  • Tai Chi, yoga , pilates

Move the way your body likes. It gets all the systems within your body moving and you feel alive and more balanced.
